Curtain Bangs Look Seriously Good

Have you ever wondered if curtain bangs could transform your look? Well, I can tell you from experience—they absolutely can! With their effortless style and face-framing appeal, curtain bangs among all of the different types of bangs, are the perfect way to update your hairstyle without a major commitment.

What Are Curtain Bangs?

Curtain bangs are a type of fringe that part in the middle, creating a soft frame around your face, much like a curtain around a window—and that window is your beautiful face! This versatile style harks back to the iconic looks of the '60s and '70s, popularised by fashion icons like Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin. Recently, curtain bangs have made a stylish comeback, celebrated for their effortless charm and adaptability to various hair textures and lengths.

What Is the Visual Appeal of Curtain Bangs?

Curtain bangs are characterised by their distinctive middle parting, which allows the bangs to gently sweep to each side, creating a curtain-like effect that frames your face. This flattering style enhances your facial features, adding softness and dimension. They blend seamlessly with various hair textures and lengths, bringing attention to unique eye colours, cheekbones, and skin tones. They also disguise any unwanted blemishes like acne, scars, or wrinkles on the forehead and temple/cheek areas. Whether your hair is straight, wavy, or curly, and whether you wear it short, medium, or long, curtain bangs can be tailored to suit your unique look.

What Are the Benefits of Curtain Bangs?

One of the standout features of curtain bangs is their incredible versatility. They can be styled to complement any look, whether you prefer your hair straight, wavy, or curly. Curtain bangs blend effortlessly with updos, ponytails, and loose styles, adding a touch of elegance and flair. These bangs are particularly known for their face-framing benefits. They accentuate your facial features, softening sharp lines and drawing attention to your eyes and cheekbones. The gentle sweep of curtain bangs adds a flattering shape that can enhance any face, giving you a chic, effortless appearance with minimal effort.

Effortless day to day pony with bangs. This is what I am talking about when you need to be out in a hurry. Just focus on the bangs and forget about the back ;)

Similar with this messy knot a beautiful balance between elegant and casual…elasual. I know, i am a genius.

A beautifully layered haircut on thick lushes lock creates this brunette bomb shell (heart eyes emoji and engagement ring emoji) If I could marry a hairstyle right now, it would be this one. Personal preference.

Not only a bob, but a bob with curtain bangs. Power! Myself and my team mates at Swanky’s do love a good bob, and to sprinkle a bang in there too is just dynamite. The colour in this image certainly enhances the look! Always remember to observe the colour of any reference pictures you are finding for your stylist and make sure it is closest to your current colour for a more realistic idea of how it will look.

The bangs on this long fine blonde hair work really well. The layers have been distributed very professionally to create a consistent flow of texture throughout the style with the bangs left a little longer to swish nicely into the face shape.

Another shorter hairstyle with longer framing curtain bangs. Notice how this model's eyes pop? A stunning cut design for this ladies features.

Shorter framing bangs here really compliment this model’s features allowing her striking cheekbones and eyes and skin tone wash over you. This makes for an effortless updo as you can see.

Curtain bangs also work for the curly hair girl :) More stubborn for obvious reasons (shorter the curl tighter the curl usually) making it less malleable but nonetheless beautiful.

And some curly hair left out and down with the bangs.

How Practical and Easy to Maintain Are Curtain Bangs?

Curtain bangs are a low-maintenance option for those looking to switch up their hairstyle without the commitment. They are easy to style and can be effortlessly grown out if you decide to change your look. One of my favourite features of curtain bangs is their day-to-day advantages—they can be styled separately from the rest of the hair, tucked behind the ears for more volume, or left to fall naturally for an effortlessly chic vibe. Each day can be different with these bangs, and they can help if you don’t have time to do a full shampoo wash of the whole head. Simply add some dry shampoo, tie all your hair back (except your bangs), shampoo just your bangs, dry and style as desired. I love a spritz of shine spray and light hairspray over the bangs and all the hair tied back for that extra sprinkle of glamour!

Styling Tips for Curtain Bangs:

  • Blow-Dryer and Round Brush: Use a medium round brush and a blow-dryer to style your bangs. Blow-dry them up and away from your face to create volume and a smooth finish.

  • Heat Protection: Always apply a heat protectant spray to shield your hair from damage caused by styling tools.

  • Versatile Styling: Experiment with different looks—straighten them for a sleek appearance, or use a curling iron for soft waves.

  • Regular Trims: To keep them looking fresh, schedule regular trims every 4-6 weeks.

How to Ask for Curtain Bangs at the Salon?

Getting the perfect curtain bangs starts with a good consultation with your stylist. Here are some tips to help you communicate exactly what you want:

  • Consult with Your Stylist: Discuss your face shape, hair texture, and personal style preferences with your stylist. This will help them tailor the bangs to suit you best. For instance, certain face shapes might benefit more from longer or shorter bangs.

  • Bring Reference Pictures: Visual aids are incredibly helpful. Bring a few pictures of curtain bangs you like to show your stylist. This will give them a clear idea of the look you're aiming for.

  • Test Before Commitment: If you're unsure about making the chop, ask your stylist to mock up a curtain bang with your current hair. This can be done by parting and styling your existing hair to simulate the look of curtain bangs. This way, you can get an idea of how they might look on you before making a commitment.

With these tips, you can ensure you walk out of the salon with curtain bangs that perfectly suit you.

Closing the curtain (bangs)

If you're looking for a fresh, stylish update to your hairstyle, curtain bangs might be just what you need. Their versatility, low maintenance, and face-framing benefits make them an excellent choice for anyone wanting to add a touch of chic to their look. So why not give curtain bangs a try and see how they can transform your style?
